1. My most successful project was my clay food project. The theme of this project was to choose a food or dish to sculpt and paint a realistic looking a clay sculpture of. the process of creating this project included brainstorming ideas for food to sculpt. I chose a fruit tart because I thought they were pretty to look at and not as difficult to make it look realistic. I printed references and drew sketches for my sculpture. After this, I began sculpting which took several days to complete. I fired the clay and painted the sculpture paying attention to realistic looking colors, textures, and details. I tried to make the fruit tart the actual size of the real food and made the fruits a realistic size too. When sculpting I added textures to the pie crust and the fruits suing carving tools which I think enhanced the end result and made it look more real and successful.
2.The two pieces that I think show my growth in this class are my point perspective pencil drawing and my watercolor Georgia O'keefe inspired pumpkin painting. I think these two pieces display my growth throughout the class because in my pencil drawing my values were too light and the pencil application was not as dark as it should have been. The pumpkin's values were dark enough and enough value was added with the paint. I think my use of texture also improved and is shown with the pumpkin's texture as compared to the lack of texture used in the pencil drawing. I also think my use of detail and neatness has improved between these two pieces.
3.The two mini lessons that I thought were the most beneficial were the colored pencil apple drawings and the chalk pastel drawing. The colored pencil mini lesson was very helpful in helping me learn how to blend the pencils correctly. It was also helpful in learning how to add value with colored pencil and learning about how to blend cool colors, warm colors, and complementary colors correctly. I think for the colored pencils we could have used a bit more instruction because it can take a while to get used to prisma colors and how to blend them and I think I could have used even more practice with them. The chalk pastel mini lesson was also very beneficial because it helped me learn how to blend the pastels correctly, add textures, and value. I think we had enough instruction for this mini lesson because I don't think chalk pastels need very much instruction because they are pretty easy to work with and get used to and you can usually fix and cover things easily by blending the chalk.
